Gaza
Thursday January 8th the United States Senate unanimously declares its strong support for Israel’s assault on Gaza.
When we pass this resolution, the United States Senate will strengthen our historic bond with the state of Israel, by reaffirming Israel’s inalienable right to defend against attacks from Gaza, as well as our support for the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid commented.
It’s hard for Israeli troops to protect civilians because the area is so densely populated. – Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice commented.
We have expressed our deep concerns about the situation with innocent lives being lost. But, again, this is a problem, unfortunately, that was brought on by Hamas. – White House spokesman Scott Stanzel commented.
The Israelis are responding exactly the same way we would. – Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell commented.
Today, we reaffirm that Israel, like any nation, has a right to self-defense when under attack. – House speaker Nancy Pelosi commented.
This UN resolution calling for a ceasefire does not suit us because it is not in the best interest of the Palestinian people. – Hamas official Raafat Morra commented.
We don’t have any intention whatsoever to target civilians. The targets we choose are military targets. If there were civilian casualties, it would only be under the responsibility of Hamas. – Israeli Self-Defense Forces spokesperson Maj. Avital Leibovich commented.
Israel’s attack was perfectly proportionate. – Alan Dershowitz commented.
Three Israeli civilians and eight hundred Palestinian civilians more than half children were not available for comment, for they are dead.
