Obama’s Mom
Barack Obama’s mother joked when he was a teenager that her son seemed interested only in basketball and that ‘She despaired of him ever having a social conscience.’ After almost a full year as president it seems more and more likely that he never did. He is not a liberal. He is not a conservative. He is a politician. His positions are wobbly and nearly always gravitate towards money and power. He speaks with a golden haloed tongue. You very much want to like him and believe he is a man of principle, but the positions he has taken (positions most of which [surprise] he said he would take when he was a candidate) and the people he has surrounded himself with disillusion you of that fantasy. He will serve four years as commander in chief and then lose the presidency to a fecal republican regressive. History will remember him as the first black president of the United States of America. One can’t help but think that his mother would have made a better president, or at least that she would have tried to do the right thing instead of what might be politically advantageous at the time.
